No stress in summer
Wiedenmann aerifiers ensure the vitality of natural turf
Dry soils, high temperatures, intensive use: the summer months pose major challenges for natural turf surfaces on sports fields, golf courses and in parks. In order to maintain the vitality of the turf despite heat stress and soil compaction, professionals rely on targeted aeration measures.
„Especially in summer, the soil needs air, in the truest sense of the word,” explains Volker Zippel, turf specialist at Wiedenmann. “Aerification opens up the soil and supplies it with oxygen. At the same time, we improve the water absorption capacity, a key factor in dry weather conditions.”
The subsoilers from the manufacturer’s Terra Spike series work to depths of around 40 cm. This ensures sustainable soil improvement and minimizes damage to the turf. Thanks to their quiet operation, Wiedenmann machines can also be used on sensitive playing surfaces such as soccer pitches or golf courses.
The right time for regeneration care
The low-use period in summer is the right time for lawn regeneration, while the warmth and moisture after maintenance measures promote rapid regeneration of the grass roots. “If you take advantage of the summer, you lay the foundation for a healthy lawn in the fall,” says Zippel.
Different tools and settings can be selected depending on the stress on the lawn and the maintenance goal. Wiedenmann’s extensive Spoon range allows adaptation to different site conditions and maintenance plans. Another plus: thanks to tool-free adjustment and high working speed, the Terra Spike machines save valuable time in everyday maintenance. Combined applications, for example with simultaneous raking, are also possible – a clear advantage in the busy summer season.
Wiedenmann will be presenting a significant addition to its portfolio at Demopark 2025: the new Terra Core 8, a compact aerator for the top ten centimetres of the turf.
New Terra Core 8 at Demopark
As an attachment for vehicles with a rear three-point linkage, the machine is designed for particularly high area coverage and ease of operation – ideal for heavily used lawns in the warmer months of the year.
With a working width of 195 cm and a finely graduated, manually adjustable working depth of up to 100 mm, the Terra Core 8 creates a homogeneous, square hole pattern with at least 270 holes per square meter. This density ensures effective gas exchange and optimally prepares the soil for reseeding or sand backfilling.
It uses Vibra-Stop, a system that significantly reduces vibrations for the operator and carrier vehicle and enables longer operations. Thanks to a wide range of accessories and various tool holders, the Terra Core 8 can be flexibly adapted to the maintenance requirements. It therefore closes the gap between the classic models for deep turf and the sensitive area at the very top of the turf.
Wiedenmann, based in Rammingen near Ulm, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of machines for professional lawn care with more than 60 years of experience and over 120 machine types for greenkeepers, local authorities, sports facilities and contract service providers. As one of the largest exhibitors at Demopark, the company will be showing numerous machines for almost all work disciplines.
