Multifunctional Attachments in the Machinery Fleet

One Machine, Many Tasks

First, clear away the autumn leaves, then remove the snow: as the seasons change, so do the tasks facing municipal maintenance departments, landscaping contractors and sports ground operators. However, this does not necessarily mean that a different machine has to be available for every job.

Multifunctional attachments can perform several tasks, helping to reduce investment costs, machine downtime and changeover times. Machinery manufacturer Wiedenmann applies this principle across various areas of its product range.

The SNOW MASTER VARIO FLEX 3370 demonstrates just how versatile a single piece of equipment can be. This snow plough features hydraulically adjustable side wings that can be folded in independently. This allows its working width to be adapted to the specific operating conditions: with the wings folded in, it is suitable for confined spaces such as narrow footpaths; with the wings extended, it can clear large areas, including supermarket car parks. In addition, angled, wedge and V-shaped configurations allow different snow-clearing strategies. A single plough can therefore handle tasks that might otherwise require several different pieces of equipment.

Multiple Benefits for Grounds Maintenance, Too

At Wiedenmann, this principle is not limited to winter maintenance. The SUPER series of turf maintenance machines, for example, combines several functions in a single base unit. Depending on the configuration, the machines can collect grass clippings and leaves, sweep surfaces, mow or scarify lawns. For groundskeepers and professional grounds maintenance teams, this means that one machine can be used throughout different stages of grounds maintenance.

The product range also offers versatile solutions for surface cleaning. The COMBI CLEAN series of sweepers can collect dirt as well as sweep surfaces clean, and are also designed for winter maintenance. This makes it possible to use existing carrier vehicles beyond the warmer months.

Another example is the combination of the TERRA RAKE and the AIRDOS overseeding system. Here, two coordinated maintenance operations are combined: mechanical treatment of the turf thatch and overseeding. This simplifies the organisation of lawn renovation and can eliminate the need for additional work steps.

Cost-Effectiveness Is About More Than the Purchase Price

For municipalities and service providers, machine versatility is becoming increasingly important in the face of tight budgets and limited staffing capacities. When assessing cost-effectiveness, factors to consider include not only the purchase price but also annual utilisation, maintenance requirements, changeover times and the number of operations required.

Multifunctional equipment can offer significant advantages in this respect. Where one machine performs several tasks, the need for additional machinery can be reduced under suitable operating conditions. At the same time, existing carrier vehicles can be put to more versatile use. The key consideration remains ensuring that the equipment matches the specific operational requirements.

This is why, particularly ahead of the winter season, it is worth reviewing the machinery fleet not just in terms of individual tasks, but also in terms of potential multiple uses. With its extensive range of equipment for grounds maintenance, debris removal and winter maintenance, Wiedenmann demonstrates how different requirements can be met using flexible attachment technology.

The aim: fewer specialised machines, higher utilisation rates and more cost-effective workflows.

And a brand-new machine is not always necessary: demonstration machines and customer returns are often also available at significantly reduced prices, complete with a manufacturer’s warranty.
